Altruistic Apps launches WeatherTV — a free, ad-free hub bringing together
storm chasers, forecasters, and weather creators in one place

Browser-based platform launches today; native apps for Android, Samsung Tizen, Xbox/Windows, and iOS planned in the coming months.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, WI — Altruistic Apps today announced the public launch of WeatherTV (watchweathertv.com), a free, ad-free, television-style platform that brings together live streams from more than 130 storm chasers, professional forecasters, and weather content creators into a single, easy-to-navigate interface — alongside a live radar viewer, real-time National Weather Service alerts, and a nostalgic nod to The Weather Channel's classic WeatherSTAR displays.

WeatherTV was built on a simple premise: during severe weather, the people doing the most valuable work — storm chasers broadcasting from the field, forecasters explaining what's coming and why, and creators helping the public understand and stay safe — are scattered across dozens of individual YouTube channels. WeatherTV brings them into one channel-surfable, TV-like experience, with no account required, no ads, and no subscription.

"This started as a personal project to make it easier to find who was live during severe weather, without digging through a dozen open tabs. The more I built it, the more it became clear this could genuinely help people — both viewers trying to stay informed and safe, and the chasers and forecasters whose work deserves a bigger audience. Altruistic Apps exists to build free tools that do some good in the world, and WeatherTV is exactly that." — Robert Poole, Founder, Altruistic Apps

A Note to the Creators We Feature

For Weather Creators

We're here to grow
your audience.
Not take from it.

WeatherTV exists because of the incredible work being done every day by storm chasers, forecasters, and weather creators — and it's built to send viewers to that work, not around it. Every stream on WeatherTV links directly back to the creator's own channel; nothing is re-hosted, re-uploaded, or monetized. Sponsorships, affiliate links, and the apps creators already promote remain entirely theirs.

WeatherTV simply helps more people discover the channels already doing this work — especially during the moments when that visibility matters most. If you're a featured creator and have questions, suggestions, or would like your channel added, updated, or removed, please reach out using the contact information at the bottom of this page. Here's exactly what that means in practice:

▶️
Your views are your views

Every video in WeatherTV plays through the official YouTube embed. When someone watches your content here, YouTube counts it — your view count, your watch time, your analytics. We pass every metric straight through to you, exactly as if the viewer had found you on YouTube directly.

💰
Your revenue stays yours

WeatherTV has no revenue stream of its own and we intend to keep it that way. We don't run ads. We don't take a cut. The ads YouTube serves in your videos go to you — fully and directly. Super chats during live streams go to you. Every dollar YouTube sends you from viewers on WeatherTV is 100% yours.

💬
Your community stays intact

Live chat on WeatherTV is your YouTube live chat — same messages, same super chats, same polls, same moderation tools. Your community doesn't split between platforms. Everything viewers type while watching on WeatherTV appears in your YouTube stream just like always.

🔔
We help people subscribe to you

Every channel card on WeatherTV has a Subscribe button. One tap opens YouTube's official subscribe confirmation — sending viewers directly to your channel to subscribe. We actively funnel new subscribers to you from an audience that might never have found you otherwise.

🌐
Broader reach, safer communities

During severe weather events, people need reliable real-time information. WeatherTV puts your live streams in front of viewers who are actively looking for storm coverage — expanding your reach beyond your existing subscriber base exactly when it matters most for public safety.

🤝
Sponsor relationships respected

If you're sponsored by a weather app like WeatherFront or WeatherWise, WeatherTV showcases that relationship. Your exclusive chaser network appears under your channel card, and we link directly to those apps in our Weather Apps panel — supporting the brands that support you.

Featured creators with questions about how WeatherTV works — including views, monetization, live chat, or removing a channel — are encouraged to reach out directly using the media contact below. We're happy to talk.

Built for the Moments That Matter

How It Works

A live channel grid
that knows what's on.

WeatherTV's core feature is its live channel grid: a continuously updated, television-style guide showing which of its 130+ curated channels are currently broadcasting, so viewers can jump straight to live coverage during developing weather. The platform monitors these channels in real time using YouTube's push-notification infrastructure, so live broadcasts appear on WeatherTV within moments of going live — without requiring viewers to refresh or search.

The platform proved itself under real conditions almost immediately: during testing on the day of this release, a severe weather outbreak across the Midwest produced 34 simultaneous live broadcasts visible on WeatherTV at once — storm chasers, local forecasters, and creators all covering the event from different angles, all discoverable from a single screen.

Live Radar — A Quick Look, Not a Replacement

Live Radar

Built for a quick look —
not a replacement.

WeatherTV also includes a built-in live radar viewer with animated NEXRAD imagery, NWS warning and watch overlays, Storm Prediction Center mesoscale discussions, and convective outlooks — all viewable directly in the browser with no app download.

This radar is intentionally designed as a fast, at-a-glance companion: "What's happening right now, near me?" For viewers who want the full depth of a dedicated weather radar app — velocity data, dual-pol products, custom alerting, and more — WeatherTV continues to link directly to the sponsored radar apps already used and recommended by the creators featured on the platform, including WeatherFront, Weather Wise, and Radar Omega, among others. WeatherTV's radar is a complement to these tools, not a competitor to them.

A Fun Nod to the Past

WeatherSTAR 4000+ & 3000+

A faithful recreation of
the classic local forecast.

Rounding out the platform is an integrated WeatherStar 4000+ and WeatherStar 3000+ experience — faithful, browser-based recreations of the local weather displays many viewers grew up watching on The Weather Channel, complete with the classic look, music, and local forecast format. This feature is built on the open-source WeatherStar project originally created by Mike Battaglia and modernized by Matt Walsh (weatherstar.netbymatt.com), to whom Altruistic Apps extends its full thanks and credit. WeatherTV is proud to help bring this nostalgic experience to a wider audience.
